Hey! So Glad You're Here.
I've been sober since June 20th 2023.
My name is Luke, I'm a gay man living in London. I started Saying Something Sober to help me keep sober; to have an outlet to channel my creativity through. I suppose it has evolved upon that original idea since, but it still is serving that original purpose.
Originally, I created the podcast because I have a lot of things to say. I have a lot of thoughts, opinions and ideas and I wanted somewhere to put them, rather than pester all of my friends and family. When I created the podcast, I wanted it to be the one-stop shop for discussion on all things that interest me; a sober queer person from the UK. The idea being that each episode, I would/will 'Say Something Sober' about the chosen topic. However, I would/will talk about it as a sober person, occasionally using my sobriety as a lens and/or relating it to my journey. With my podcast, I always felt that, though there are oodles of sobriety guides which are eternally useful, there is a lack of easy-watching/easy-listening, pop-culture content that comes from a sober view and with sobriety in mind. As I say, the podcast has evolved and I'm finding out what it is becoming. It is great platform for me to discuss books, larger topics and allow my thoughts to take control.
I was always more of a writer, though. All of my ideas for podcasts weren't necessarily viable because of the platform and the time it takes to make an episode. But, I still have these ideas and I still want to put them somewhere. So, enter this blog. This blog is the place where I can channel my written creativity with ideas and content that maybe isn't long enough or conversational enough or even too long for a podcast. I'm also wary that there are times where I don't feel like recording a podcast, but still crave the creative outlet I started the podcast for. This blog will serve all of these purposes.
So, that's Saying Something Sober. The Podcast & The Blog.
Thanks for listening, and now, thanks for reading too!
~Luke
